The Little Red Wagon Ministry Update: 27th July 2010 Print E-mail

Hello all,

Well, we have been participating in "The Little Red Wagon Ministry" at Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, in Apex, for little over a year now.

In this short time, we have collected 7,222 pounds of food and delivered it to the Western Wake Crisis Ministry here in Apex. 157 pounds in the past  week alone!  (Yes, well over a hundred pounds this week alone and now over three and a half TONS of food. The donations, this week , as always, were so well received. There is still a critical shortage of ( CANNED VEGGIES!!!Our donation this week was the only veggies and cereal on their shelves.) rice, canned beans and breakfast cereal. Our rice  and other donations this week made a difference, but the summer months are when the demand is the highest and the donations are lower.

(OVER THREE  and a half TONS  of food have been collected in our "Little Red Wagons"! )

Some of you may not have heard about our new ministry. It's called The Little Red Wagon because, each Sunday when the offerings are presented,

one of our children brings the red wagon-full of food- and it is presented along with the monetary offering.

The Little Red Wagon is parked all week long in Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church (2172 N. Salem St.). Everyone is encouraged to bring non-perishable food and to put it in the wagon.

This can be, for instance: canned meat, canned veggies, pasta, cereal, grits,  soup, sauces, peanut butter, jelly, mac & cheese and so on. You can bring in your donation anytime the church is open and just put it in the wagon. Or, just bring it with you to church each Sunday. This ministry will be an ongoing-weekly- program, so look into your hearts and your pantries, and join us in this worthwhile help for our neighbors.

A special need now is for  RICE (The WWCM is almost out of rice!), canned and dried beans, soups and canned  pork & beans! Please help if you can!

Here's their web site, which gives more info on WWCM:

Also, check out their "Youtube" video, which is linked to on the site. (This explains a lot!)

There is an excellent article in SouthWest Wake News, which highlights the work done at Western Wake Crisis Ministry.
The need is great in these difficult times.
